Dietary Astragalus Crude Extract Boosts Piglet Growth and Mitigates Weaning Stress by Enhancing Antioxidant Activity, Improving Immunity, and Modulating Intestinal Microbiota

Astragalus is a traditional Chinese medicine that contains various bioactive compounds, which exert antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. This research aimed to investigate the impacts of Astragalus crude extract on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, immune response, and intestinal health in weaned piglets. Sixty crossbred weaned piglets at 28 days of age (8.12 ± 0.14 kg) were allocated into three dietary treatments: a control group fed a corn-soybean meal-based diet (CON), an...

Fear of Cancer Recurrence Among Parents of Children with Cancer Who Underwent Germline Genetic Testing

Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is a significant but understudied concern among parents of childhood cancer survivors. This study quantitatively characterized parental FCR and explored potential demographic and clinical correlates among parents of children treated for cancer. Parents (N = 192) completed the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory-Parent Short Form (FCRI-Parent) and provided demographic information. Clinical variables were obtained from medical chart review. Associations between FCR...

Changes in young children's behavior following COVID-19 pandemic onset: A tale of three cities

Several reports have described increases in children's behavior problems since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but few were based on prospective data or represented groups who disproportionately experienced pandemic-related hardships. This study followed low-income and racially diverse young children from 3 U.S. cities-New York, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, and Tulsa, OK-with repeated measures of child behavior between 2016 and 2023. A total of 1,124 children were included (50% female; 48%...

Draft genome sequence of <em>Enterococcus faecalis</em> BFS29 isolated from diseased silver carp (<em>Hypophthalmichthys molitrix</em>) in Bangladesh

We report a draft genome sequence of Enterococcus faecalis BFS29, isolated from a diseased silver carp in Bangladesh. The 2.89 Mb genome assembled into 69 contigs with a GC content of 37.4%, encodes 2,789 predicted coding sequences, and contains virulence, antimicrobial resistance, and bacteriocin-associated genes.

Relationship Stress and Suicidal Ideation: A Daily Diary Study

Prior research on relationship stress and suicidal ideation has relied primarily on cross-sectional designs, limiting understanding of daily fluctuations and within-person processes. This study examined associations between relationship stress and suicidal ideation through the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide using a 10-day daily diary design. Participants (N = 84) were adults in romantic relationships reporting depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. Multilevel modeling revealed that...
