In Vitro Fertilization is Essential Healthcare for Patients With Rheumatic Disease

2 weeks 3 days ago
Infertility presents a profound physical, emotional, and financial burden, particularly for rheumatology patients who often face substantial barriers to family building. Training status augments mechanisms of rapid‑onset vasodilation in healthy young adults

2 weeks 3 days ago
Rapid onset vasodilation (ROV) is the immediate, transient increase in muscle blood flow following contraction and is mediated by chemical, mechanical, and, potentially, neural mechanisms. Although exercise training has been shown to preserve ROV in older adults, it remains unclear whether training promotes adaptation in specific contributing mechanisms. This study tested the hypothesis that a history of forearm training increases ROV. Sixteen healthy young males (8 trained, 8 sedentary)...

Mortality trends of comorbid viral hepatitis C and psychoactive substance use disorders in the United States: Insights from CDC WONDER, 1999-2023

2 weeks 2 days ago
Viral hepatitis C (HCV) remains a major global health challenge, and psychoactive substance use disorders (SUD) significantly compound its burden. However, national mortality trends from comorbid HCV and psychoactive SUD are not well characterized. This study aimed to examine temporal, demographic, and regional patterns in mortality associated with comorbid HCV and psychoactive SUD in the United States. A descriptive analysis of CDC WONDER death certificate data from 1999-2023 was performed....

Inpatient Outcomes and Complications After Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in Rural Versus Urban Hospitals in the United States

2 weeks 2 days ago
CONCLUSIONS: A majority of LAAO implantations occurred in urban hospitals in the U.S. Baseline characteristics and adjusted odds of inpatient complications and mortality were similar in rural and urban recipients. However, important differences were described regarding resource utilization and disposition. Further investigation into the specific factors driving these inequities is encouraged to promote improved access to and outcomes of cardiovascular care for rural residents.
