Senolytic treatment with dasatinib and quercetin selectively improves cardiac autonomic balance in obesity

1 month 3 weeks ago
Chronic sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) to end organs plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of obesity-induced hypertension. Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM), a key brainstem region regulating sympathetic outflow, have been implicated in the sympathetic overactivity in obesity. However, the upstream mechanisms driving RVLM neuroinflammation remain unknown. We hypothesized that obesity induces cellular senescence, a stress response...

Age- and cognitive load-related variability and entropy of gait: integrating coefficient of variation, median absolute deviation, and permutation entropy of spatiotemporal parameters into the Semmelweis Study gait assessment framework

1 month 3 weeks ago
Aging profoundly alters the neuromotor and cognitive systems that support gait control, leading to increased variability and instability that predict functional decline and dementia risk. In this pilot study, conducted to inform the design of the Semmelweis Study gait assessment pipeline, we examined how aging and cognitive load influence the magnitude and temporal organization of gait fluctuations. The Semmelweis Study is a large, prospective workplace cohort at Semmelweis University designed...

Challenges faced by women and girls with hemophilia or are carriers: an expert call for closing the diagnosis gap

1 month 3 weeks ago
INTRODUCTION: Women and girls (WG) carrying factor 8/9 gene variant can present with hemophilia with low factor VIII/IX levels and bleeding phenotype similar to men and boys with additional gynecological bleeding, or as Hemophilia carriers (HC) with normal factor levels with/without bleeding. This review aims to address the gender gap in diagnosing WG with hemophilia (WGwH)/HC and discusses ways to improve diagnosis for appropriate and timely management of their unique challenges.

Contact-mediated bacterial transmission and infection risk dynamics in a newly opened hospital ward

1 month 3 weeks ago
The hospital microbiome significantly influences patient recovery and clinical outcomes. However, the dynamics of microbial colonization and transmission following initial patient occupancy remain poorly understood. Here, we employed 16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 region (Illumina platform) to investigate bacterial community dynamics on surfaces within neurosurgery ward and patients as a new hospital became operational. Our results showed that bacterial colonization in hospital...

Mortality and clinical outcomes in patients with mild autonomous cortisol secretion: Adrenalectomy versus nonoperative management

1 month 3 weeks ago
CONCLUSION: Adrenalectomy in mild autonomous cortisol secretion patients with cortisol levels between 1.8 and 5 μg/dL after a 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test is associated with reduced mortality and a lower risk of new-onset diabetes.
