Regulation of survival, growth, and metabolism by neuronal mTOR

1 day 7 hours ago
Reducing activity of the mechanistic/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) with rapamycin extends lifespan and healthspan in many species. The mechanisms by which mTOR regulates lifespan and healthspan, however, are still unknown. Understanding how mTOR signaling in different cell types regulates lifespan and aspects of healthspan is urgently needed if we are to harness the potential individual and societal benefits of healthspan extension by mTOR attenuation. mTOR kinase can form two complexes,...

Tissue-specific autoantibody signatures reveal immune alterations undetected by routine serology in long COVID

1 day 7 hours ago
Long COVID affects a substantial proportion of individuals recovering from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, yet its underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Although autoimmunity is increasingly implicated in disease pathogenesis, routine diagnostics frequently fail to detect relevant immune dysregulation. To address this gap, we analyzed sera from Long COVID patients (n = 114) and pre-pandemic controls (n = 36) using tissue-based Western...

Application of 200 kHz Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) in Patients With Infratentorial High-Grade Glioma: Case Series

1 day 7 hours ago
Tumor treating fields (TTFields) therapy at 200 kHz is FDA-approved for supratentorial glioblastoma. However, reports of TTFields in patients with infratentorial high-grade glioma (HGG) are rare. Two patients with infratentorial HGG received off-label 200 kHz TTFields. To reduce impaired neck range of motion, the electrode transducer arrays were "skeletonized" by cutting a portion of the adhesive material. The electrode arrays were applied with the neck in flexion to further promote range of...

Endometriosis and ovarian cancer risk

1 day 7 hours ago
CONCLUSIONS: Endometriosis confers a slightly increased relative risk of specific ovarian cancer subtypes; however, the absolute risk remains low for most women, and this distinction is critical to avoid unnecessary anxiety, surveillance, or overtreatment. Individualized risk assessment and prospective studies integrating epidemiologic and molecular data are needed to refine stratification strategies and guide evidence-based care.

Trends in Age-Adjusted Cardiovascular Mortality Rates Among the Diabetic Population of the United States: 1999-2020, CDC WONDER Retrospective Study

7 hours 53 minutes ago
CONCLUSIONS: While overall CVD mortality in individuals with DM has improved, recent increases in AAMRs and persistent demographic and geographic disparities underscore the need for targeted public health strategies. Addressing these disparities is critical to sustaining progress and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations.
