Oklahoma Research Highlights

Investigating the reproducibility of the social and behavioural sciences

2 months 2 weeks ago
Published claims should be reproducible, yielding the same result when the same analysis is applied to the same data^(1,2). Here we assess reproducibility in a stratified random sample of 600 papers published from 2009 to 2018 in 62 journals spanning the social and behavioural sciences. The authors of 144 (24.0%, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 20.8-27.6%) papers made data available to assess reproducibility and, for 38 others, we obtained source data to reconstruct the dataset. We assessed 143...

Modified iliac screw technique for pelvic fixation: a scoping review of technical characteristics and early clinical outcomes

2 months 2 weeks ago
CONCLUSION: Early experiences with MIS fixation demonstrate promising clinical utility with acceptable rates of hardware-related complications and morbidity. However, existing evidence remains limited to small, heterogeneous series without standardized outcome reporting. Robust prospective investigations with larger cohorts and standardized long-term follow-up are needed to comprehensively characterize the safety, durability, and comparative performance of the MIS technique.

Alternatively activated macrophages cause DNA damage through an arginase 1-mediated bystander effect and promote epithelial cell transformation

2 months 2 weeks ago
Colorectal oncogenesis involves progressive genetic and epigenetic alterations in colon epithelial cells. Classically activated M1 macrophages can generate bystander-induced mutations and neoplastic transformation in epithelial cells. Herein, we report a novel mechanism by which alternatively activated M2 macrophages also induce a bystander effect. Similar to M1 macrophages, M2-activated macrophages cause double-strand DNA breaks in targeted epithelial cells, activate multiple signaling...

Bumble bee communities exhibit delayed recovery following severe drought in rangeland

2 months 2 weeks ago
Rangelands offer resources that support bumble bees (Bombus spp. [Hymenoptera: Apidae]), which are essential pollinators in agricultural and natural ecosystems. However, relatively little is known on how bumble bee communities respond to and recover from drought within rangeland ecosystems. Our study site in North Dakota experienced an extreme drought in 2021, and we investigated the influences of this drought on bumble bee populations over time. Bumble bee abundance was 98% lower during the...
