CONCLUSION: Alzheimer's disease mortality with associated heart failure has shown considerable variation in adults ≥ 65 years. AAMRs were highest in women, NH Whites, residents of the West and nonmetropolitan patient populations. Targeted interventions and a more holistic approach to patient management are essential in achieving favorable outcomes for vulnerable groups.

Prospective associations of sleep duration and screen time with transition from overweight/obesity to normal BMI in U.S. adolescents

3 months 2 weeks ago
CONCLUSION: Short sleep duration was prospectively associated with a lower likelihood of transitioning to a normal BMI among adolescents with overweight/obesity. This association warrants further investigation as a potential intervention target.

An XGBoost-based cellular automata for modeling PM₂.₅ concentration using ground and satellite data

3 months 2 weeks ago
Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues in Iran, driven by industrial greenhouse gas emissions, vehicle exhaust, power plants, and natural sources such as dust storms. Among various pollutants, PM₂.₅ is especially concerning due to its high prevalence in urban areas. Governments have utilized air quality monitoring stations to measure PM₂.₅ concentration levels to implement policies aimed at controlling this pollutant. Fixed monitoring stations, which operate for regulatory...

A role for Fis1 in dendritic development

3 months 2 weeks ago
Mitochondrial ATP production and calcium handling are critical for metabolic regulation and neurotransmission. Thus, the formation and maintenance of the mitochondrial network is a critical component of neuronal health. Cortical pyramidal neurons contain compartment-specific mitochondrial morphologies that result from distinct axonal and dendritic mitochondrial fission and fusion profiles. We previously revealed that axonal mitochondria are maintained at a small size as a result of high axonal...

Gait variability is more strongly associated with walking speed than with age

3 months 2 weeks ago
CONCLUSIONS: These findings emphasize that measures of gait variability may not be particularly sensitive to the age-related declines in the biological subsystems but rather, are more predictive of preferred walking speed.
