MUSE-Net: Missingness-aware mUlti-branching Self-attention Encoder for Irregular Longitudinal Electronic Health Records

3 weeks 6 days ago
The era of big data has made vast amounts of clinical data readily available, particularly in the form of electronic health records (EHRs), which provides unprecedented opportunities for developing data-driven diagnostic tools to enhance clinical decision making. However, data-driven modeling of EHRs faces challenges such as irregularly spaced time series, issues of incompleteness, and data imbalance. Realizing the full data potential of EHRs hinges on the development of advanced analytical...

Does Depression and Relationship Distress Predict Longer Couple Therapy Treatment in Naturalistic Settings?

3 weeks 6 days ago
The average couple therapy treatment length is 11.50 sessions in the United States, yet these estimates are supported by decades-old research. We update this prior work by accounting for therapist effects and investigating clinical cut-offs for depression and relationship distress. We used a sample of 417 mixed-sex couples and 122 therapists from the Marriage and Family Therapy Practice Research Network. Using multilevel modeling in Mplus, couples had an average of 11.73 sessions with therapists...

Comparative liver proteome analysis of feedlot steer calves reveals growth trait-specific pathways influenced by calving season

3 weeks 6 days ago
CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate that both growth trajectory and season of birth independently modulate the bovine liver proteome, with stronger seasonal effects, providing novel insight into the metabolic and immune mechanisms underlying variation in calf growth performance.

Pediatric sinogenic and otogenic intracranial infections requiring neurosurgical intervention: a North American multicenter study in the era of COVID-19

3 weeks 6 days ago
CONCLUSIONS: This North American multicenter retrospective study demonstrated a significant increase in the incidence of sinogenic and otogenic intracranial infections requiring neurosurgical intervention but similar rates of adverse outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Possible explanations include direct modulation of the immune system by SARS-CoV-2, a loss of certain commensal respiratory bacteria, and/or indirect effects of the pandemic.
