Oklahoma Research Highlights

Associations between smoking status, beliefs, and comfort providing quitting support in the United States

1 week 6 days ago
CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that support providers' and support recipients' smoking behaviors influence comfort providing support. Participants generally felt more comfortable supporting someone with a clear motivation to quit. Among potential support providers, current smokers felt less comfortable providing support, whereas former smokers felt more comfortable.

Linking Grassland Canopy Structure and Function Responses to Field Experimental Drought Both Seasonally and Interannually

1 week 6 days ago
Shifts in species composition in water-limited ecosystems such as temperate prairies during summer droughts can lead to community-level changes. In both short-term experimental and long-term drought events, C4 species decline in abundance while C3 species increase, causing reductions in above ground net primary productivity (ANPP). Thus, this study focused on linking experimental drought-induced shifts in species composition with changes in canopy structure and function using remote sensing...

Platelet-derived TGF-β1 and Treg maintenance in a murine model of ITP

1 week 6 days ago
Mei et al. suggest platelet-derived-TGF-β1 is critical to ITP tolerance via Treg modulation, but their implausibly high TGF-β1 levels likely reflect ex vivo artifacts. We couldn't confirm platelet-derived TGF-β1-driven Treg deficiency using knock-out mice; remission maintenance likely involves extra-platelet TGF-β1 sources.

Using Serious Games to Increase the Implementation of Trauma Triage Guidelines: A Randomized Clinical Trial

1 week 6 days ago
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Among physicians responsible for the triage of patients in emergency departments of nontrauma centers, use of a theory-based serious game decreased the proportion of severely injured patients who were undertriaged.

Optimizing mobile mammography deployment in Oklahoma 2024: a two-step floating catchment area approach

1 week 5 days ago
This study assessed spatial accessibility to fixed mammography centres across Oklahoma State, USA using the Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) and the Enhanced Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (E2SFCA) methods to identify areas with limited or no access. For this analysis, we used data from the mammography facilities database of the US Food and Drug Administration verified by direct contact with the facility and the U.S. Census block group population and demographics for women aged 40...
