Reducing Surgical Instrument Contamination Through Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement: A Systems Approach at an Academic Medical Center

2 weeks 3 days ago
CONCLUSIONS: Contaminated surgical instrument sets represented a recurrent systems-level failure. Institution-wide efforts, including multidisciplinary collaboration, structured quality-improvement methodology, and targeted interventions, produced measurable improvements. Continued monitoring, workforce competency reinforcement, and system redesign are needed to mitigate future risk.

Reductive Cyclization of N-Alkyl- and N-Aryl-N-(2-Nitrophenyl) Amides to 1,2-Disubstituted Benzimidazoles

2 weeks 3 days ago
A new three-step strategy for the preparation of 1,2-disubstituted 1H-benzo[d]imidazoles has been developed. The approach involved (1) S(N)Ar addition-elimination of alkyl- or arylamines to 1-fluoro-2-nitrobenzene to give N-alkyl- or N-aryl-2-nitroanilines, (2) acylation of these adducts with acid chlorides to afford N-alkyl- or N-aryl-N-(2-nitrophenyl) amides, and (3) reduction of the aromatic nitro with iron in acetic acid at 95-100 °C, followed by closure of the resulting amine on the amide...

Damage Identification of Truss Bridge Under Temperature Variations Based on Stiffness Separation Method

2 weeks 3 days ago
Structures are continuously subjected to the combined effects of temperature variations and other environmental factors during service, leading to changes in their structural responses and severely compromising the accuracy of damage identification. To address this temperature-induced interference, this study proposes a damage identification method that jointly identifies damage and temperature parameters. Temperature variations are treated as unknown parameters and identified simultaneously...

Interpretable Framework for Sleep Monitoring: Applying Statistical Control Charts to Physiological Data Streams

2 weeks 3 days ago
Polysomnography monitors sleep health with non-linear physiological time-series data, consequently making interpretability a challenge. This study explores the feasibility of applying control charts, a statistical process control method, to cardio-respiratory signals derived from polysomnography studies to provide transparent and interpretable analysis of sleep-related physiological variability. Cardio-respiratory signals from a publicly available polysomnography dataset were preprocessed,...

Latent Salinity Stress Detection in Opuntia ficus-indica Using Hyperspectral Imaging and a 3D-CNN Framework

2 weeks 3 days ago
Salinity stress remains a major bottleneck for agriculture in arid regions. While Opuntia ficus-indica is known for its resilience, its young cladodes maintain a misleadingly healthy visual appearance and stable biomass even under heavy saline pressure, making traditional vegetation indices and standard statistics unreliable for early diagnosis. The objective of this study was to develop a non-destructive phenotyping framework for the early detection of latent salinity stress in young Opuntia...
