Genomes of <em>Syntrophomonas erecta</em> GB4-38T and <em>Syntrophomonas erecta</em> subsp. <em>sporosyntropha</em> 5-3-ZT that degrade C4-8 short-chain fatty acids

2 months 1 week ago
We report the genome sequences of two syntrophic gram-negative bacteria, Syntrophomonas erecta GB4-38^(T) and Syntrophomonas erecta subsp. sporosyntropha 5-3-Z^(T), which degrade C4-C8 short-chain fatty acids when grown in co-culture with a suitable hydrogen-consuming microbial strain.

Selective Disruption of Salience-Network Anterior Insula Connectivity in Misophonia: A Disorder-Specific Neural Signature

2 months 1 week ago
Misophonia, a disorder characterized by extreme aversion to certain sounds, affects 5%-20% of the general population, yet mechanisms are still largely unknown. Recent neuroimaging studies have reported abnormal functional connectivity of the anterior insula to various limbic, salience, and motor regions in smaller samples of misophonic individuals versus controls, suggesting potential differences in underlying attentional or emotional processes. These findings prompt questions about the insular...

Optimized histidine-specific isotopic labeling in proteins overproduced in Escherichia coli

2 months 1 week ago
The use of specific isotope labeling methods has significantly enhanced structural and kinetic research in protein science using a variety of biophysical techniques. Histidine plays key roles in a wide range of protein functions: enzymatic catalysis, metal ion coordination, protein stability, and redox reactions. In this article, we report a method for optimized histidine-specific isotopic labeling in proteins overproduced in Escherichia coli. We developed and validated this method using...

Improved Speech Recognition for Children With Limited Usable Hearing Unilaterally When Using a Remote Microphone in a Simulated Classroom Setting

2 months 1 week ago
CONCLUSIONS: In children with LUHU, the Roger Focus II effectively reduced the impact of background noise and allowed for a greater distance between the teacher in front of the classroom and the listener in a simulated classroom setting. Children with LUHU demonstrated superior speech recognition abilities compared with those with NH in the most challenging conditions when seated farthest from the teacher. Future studies should examine subjective feedback in real-life classrooms across a wide...
